REIKI
(ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force", or the
energy all around us. Reiki is a safe body therapy technique that
balances the body, mind and spirit, and facilitates the healing of the
whole person. REIKI involves the use of gentle, light touch applied to
the body to transmit healing energy.
What is its Origin?
This
healing art uses the same techniques as did the Lamas of ancient Tibet,
who are the originators of the REIKI system. Thousands of years old,
it was a hidden art until rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian
minister living in Japan. He practiced and taught the REIKI principles
and healing methods throughout his life. The knowledge was preserved
and passed on to others, and eventually was brought to the West in the
1970's. Many REIKI Practitioners are now trained by Certified REIKI
MASTERS to carry on the tradition of the Usui System of Natural Healing.
How does REIKI work?
Illness
can be the result of a blockage of energy caused by lifestyle habits,
stress, or negative emotions. When the body systems are under stress or
strain, an adverse or unnatural flow can result, causing dysfunction or
dis-ease. Non-invasive and gentle, REIKI opens up the energy pathways,
removes blocks, and re-awakens in healing capacity within all of us.
It is this free flowing, balanced energy int he system which facilitates
the healing processes of the body, mind, and spirit, and fosters
feelings of relaxation, wholeness, and well-being.
What can you expect from REIKI treatment?
The client lies fully clothed on a bodywork table
A treatment lasts approximately one hour
The practitioner places her hands on different areas of the client's head, torso, legs, feet, and back
The length of time varies, depending upon the client's needs and the time allowed
The client may talk during the session if so desired
Some clients may experience heat from the practitioner's hands and tingling sensations on their body
States of deep relaxation and peace are reported by many clients
